The Fraser Valley Dalia Society – Disbanded in 2024

The Fraser Valley is a fertile growing area in British Columbia situated about an hour east of Vancouver.
Several noted growers are located there and prior to the formation of the Fraser Valley Dahlia Society they had to drive over an hour to their nearest dahlia society and show.

FVDS – Originators

Reg Unsworth and Ralph Kuiper were avid growers and thought that a new society based in Chilliwack would meet the needs of many growers in the area. It was important to be able to host a show in the Fraser Valley so that there would be two shows that Vancouver area growers could participate in without the hassle of a border or ferry. They were joined by Roy Campbell and John and Peggy Byland.
They held a very successful tuber sale on April 18, 1997 and the proceeds gave the group working capital to plan their first show. Unfortunately, Reg passed away before their first show but they were able to dedicate it to his memory on August 30 and 31, 1997 at the West Oaks Mall in Abbotsford.

Sadly, they have lost all their founding members but the society is still going strong and spreading the joy of dahlias in the valley.
The Fraser Valley Dahlia Society is celebrating it’s 25th anniversary in 2022.
